Engineering and Design

Every employee at Wescast is committed to technical innovation in design and manufacturing and we work closely with our customers to find creative, cost-effective solutions. Our global sales and design centres provide local support to the OEMs assisting in the development of advanced products that maximize engine, system and vehicle performance. Wescast's research teams are continually improving upon iron compositions and material properties to support higher exhaust gas temperatures while optimizing durability, weight and packaging characteristics.
Wescast understands the need to be flexible and efficient as OEMs continue to demand quicker turnaround times in all development phases - concept through production. Wescast is able to reduce product development and testing times by employing innovative simulation and prototype techniques that exceed our customers' expectations.
Richard W. LeVan Centre

Wescast’s Technical Development Centre (TDC) consolidates all of the Company's research and development, product design and diversification initiatives in one state-of-the-art facility. This allows us to accelerate our product development activities, provide advanced process development, and carry out focused and innovative research and development to support our growth initiatives. The building also houses a mini-foundry and a machine shop for making prototypes and for advanced engineering projects.
Innovation is not the sole responsibility of our people at the TDC. Creativity and innovation are important skills that all of our employees engage in. It is the basis of our continuous improvement philosophy, part of our culture and key to our future success.
Research & Development
Wescast's research and development efforts are focused on exhaust components, materials research and process improvements. Our technical development facility includes metallurgical and materials test laboratories. These labs are used to support our customers' metallurgical needs and to test and evaluate high temperature materials. This knowledge is being integrated with advanced analytical engineering techniques to provide superior modeling capability and innovative technical solutions.
Exploration of new ideas and concepts for improving our products is an ongoing process. The research and development team at Wescast also works very closely with manufacturing to collaborate and identify process improvements within our production environment. Wescast takes pride in utilizing its leadership in product design, engineering and manufacturing to quickly resolve complex technical issues.
