Expanding The Global Footprint

Wescast’s entry into Asia symbolizes our commitment to becoming a full service global supplier for the automotive industry. Our development plans are strategically aligned with our customers’ demand for global supply capability. Not only will we move with our customers as they do more business in Asia, we are positioned to build relationships with new and existing Asian manufacturers, including emerging Chinese automakers.

Wescast is confident that our Asian Business Unit will strengthen our worldwide organization with enhanced access to the expanding Chinese domestic market as well as the mature Japanese market. Our experience in entering Europe allows us to move into Asia with confidence, building on acquired expertise in adapting to foreign markets and production environments, as well as the challenges of geographic and cultural diversity.

With local sales and design support in Yokohama, Japan and Shanghai, China, our Asian Business Unit will continue to grow as we launch an integrated casting and machining facility in Wuhan, China. Wescast plans to complete this manufacturing operation in a staged fashion; first with the establishment of a machining facility that is expected to begin production in 2007, followed by a foundry facility that is expected to begin operating in 2008. Undertaking this expansion in a staged approach provides us with appropriate time to further develop customer relationships and to develop local management and operational resources.

In Asia, Wescast offers competitive design, casting and machining services for the world’s fastest growing market.
